Blue Bottle Coffee

Mocha and waffle from Blue Bottle Coffee

Blue Bottle Coffee

Walking into Blue Bottle Coffee, I was taken aback by it aesthetic appeal. I noticed that it was brightly lit by warm-toned electric lights and by daylight streaming through the storefront windows. Everything was immaculate, and on top of that, the entire cafe was sleek and modern. The gorgeously modern design featured clean white walls and counters, invitingly warm tones of wood paneling, and a pop of blue on the menu.

Blue Bottle Coffee is an ideal place to sit and work. It's bright, comfortable, and beautiful. Free wifi is provided, and it is pretty quiet. Simple repetitive music plays just loudly enough to mask the noise of the baristas working in the kitchen and the sound of everyone else working. The seating is set up on stools along long white-surfaced tables, creating a great environment to focus on your laptop or whatever else you have to do.

The menu isn't particularly extensive; this restaurant has a toned down menu to match their minimalist design. They have a limited supply of espresso beverages, like a Hayes Valley Espresso, a cappuccino, a latte, a sweet latte, a lavender yuzu latte, and a mocha. They also serve several blends of regular coffee and tea--a matcha latte, a chai latte, fizz, and regular tea. Unique to Blue Bottle Coffee is their New Orleans Style Coffee, or "NOLA," a sweet and creamy coffee beverage.

They have a limited set of food options as well. There is a small glass case full of pastries like sweet breads and croissants. On top of that small case, you will see pictures of a few more options, including an affogato (ice cream served with coffee) and a small waffle. Also on the menu is a breakfast sandwich, avocado toast, grilled cheese, egg bites, and almond butter toast.

After some deliberation, I decided to try the mocha and the waffle. It took them a little bit to prepare my order. I was impressed to see that the waffle was made fresh as soon as I ordered it; it was not ready made! The mocha came out very gorgeously with perfect latte art (pictured above). The mocha was very hot, so I waited a little bit to drink it. It smelled very good.

With great anticipation, I took the first sip of my mocha. I was not disappointed! It had a luscious, dark chocolate flavor; it tasted like high quality dark chocolate. It was bitter but sweet, while being silky and smooth. I savored every sip.

Next, I sampled the waffle. It was scrumptious. I liked the flavor, which was a toned-down type of sweet, but I loved the texture; it was soft on the inside with a hard, sugary crust on the outside. It was the perfect snack to savor for a while as I worked on my computer.

Blue Bottle Coffee is a premium coffee shop. It emphasizes top quality products with a unique flavor and texture served in an environment that is easy to work in. That said, it only costs a little more than its mainstream competitors.

Blue Bottle Coffee has locations scattered around the Bay Area. If I were you, I would keep an eye out for a location near you that you could try. You will likely want to come back again and again.
