Endless Summer Sweets
Endless Summer Sweets
A trip to Endless Summer Sweets is like a trip back in time to childhood. This small shop specializes in all of our childhood favorites, with an emphasis on summer fair food. The shop is brightly lit and painted in pastel blue-green and light pink, colors that resemble classic cotton candy. When you walk in, you will be surrounded by these festive colors and will see a counter that displays caramel apples and several flavors of kettle corn; behind that counter, you will see the entire menu in bright colors on television screens.
The main course menu consists of hot dogs, corn dogs, chicken tenders, and chicken sandwiches. The side options include fries and nachos. For dessert, you can have cotton candy, popcorn, ice cream, churros, funnel cakes, milkshakes, and more. You can order and pay at a kiosk or in person with the help of a cashier.
The corn dogs taste like pure nostalgia--exactly what you remember the corn dogs tasting like in childhood. By this I mean the frank was perfectly cooked and salted, as tender and savory as I remember corndogs being as a child, and the breaded outside had just the right amount of sweetness.
The caramel corn comes in several sizes. I picked a medium size ("carousel") and had no trouble polishing it off on my way home. It is delightfully sweet and salty, and it has a lovely crunch to it. Like the corn dog, it had a classic flavor to it; it tasted like a treat I had many times in childhood.
The milkshakes are blissfully sweet with a thick and creamy consistency all while being ice cold. They use a large portion of ice cream and whipped cream per serving, and this helps create that thick, creamy texture. The vanilla milkshake (pictured above) has a strong vanilla flavor to it. It reminded me of my childhood innocence.
Situated along Shattuck Avenue, this small shop is a wonderful find. What this shop does best is recreate the magic of classic American fair food. Its old-fashioned recipes are perfect for adults and children alike. This shop carries on an old tradition of American childhood favorites with pride.
