Purple Onion Cafe
If you are ever in Los Gatos and are looking to grab a quick but satisfying bite, this is a great place to stop! Open daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, this cute little cafe has something on its menu for almost everyone.
This shop has an impressive coffee menu that includes espresso, americano, macchiatos, cappuccinos, lattes, cafe au laits, mochas, drip coffees, matcha lattes, chai lattes, and hot chocolates. You can add oat milk, almond milk, half and half, and a variety of simple syrups/flavors. Their coffee is masterfully handcrafted with lots of care and love.
I tried their mocha and was blown away by the superbness! The drink was warm with a thick, velvety texture. It was sweet, but not too sweet; it had a subtle but noticeable chocolate flavor.
There also an enticing selection of sweets in their glass case. These baked goods include cookies, croissants, coffee cakes, muffins, and brownies. These sweets are not just your basic sweets; they have a sophisticated flavor with a touch of salt to balance their sweetness.
My favorite is their butterscotch cookie. It is a crunchy cookie that breaks neatly into pieces. Biting in is like being immersed in a sensation of flavor; the butterscotch and nutty bits interact with the buttery and slightly salted dough. It's hard to beat!
The menu also includes a wide selection of breakfast options, including breakfast sandwiches, bagels, overnight oats, granola and yogurt, quiche, breakfast burritos, and a lox box. All these are viable options to start your day.
Purple Onion Cafe also serves an interesting selection of sandwiches and salads. They have a meatloaf sandwich, a sidewalk baguette sandwich, a chicken mozzarella sandwich, a classic sub sandwich, a BBQ pulled pork sandwich, a tuna melt sandwich, a turkey cranberry sandwich, a turkey and cucumber sandwich, and flatbread sandwiches. They also have a superfood and ahi salad, a BBQ pork salad, a chicken cabbage salad, a big clean salad, a CA taco salad, and a cafe salad. As you can see, the restaurant offers many tasty, one-of-a-kind options. You can pair your sandwich or salad with a side of chips, if you like.
But my all-time favorite from this cafe is their hot dog stand. Served on a fluffy bun with a slightly crisp exterior, this hearty frank is perfectly salty and savory. It screams of a classic flavor and tastes like nostalgia. It tastes excellent with the tangy mustard it comes with, but you can request ketchup instead, if that's more your thing.
