Cafenated Coffee

Located on Vine near the corner with Shattuck, Cafenated Coffee has stripped-down modern appearance and in and outdoor seating. It has its own laid back personality that goes well with the simple modern interior and the peaceful music played on the speakers. The space is a great place to work or meet because it’s peaceful, organized, and there is no rush to finish.

Walking by Cafenated Coffee, it appears to be a small shop with a little bit of seating I front, but if you enter, you will find it extends a fair distance back. It even has a large patio behind with a more peaceful seating. I consider it to be a hidden oasis in the middle of Berkeley for studying, meeting, working, or just relaxing.

When you enter, you can order and pay a cashier at the counter, or you can use the self-service kiosk. The service is good, and your order will be ready shortly. There is also a takeout option, which for some reason costs 25 cents or so more.

This coffee shop features most of the standard drinks you usually see at a cafe, as well as some specialty drinks and some options for customization. There is a pretty standard but attractive assortment of pastries that includes a few special items like baklava. There also is a decent selection of somewhat sizable sandwiches (big enough to be a lunch option).

The pricing of the coffee and pastries is pretty average, but maybe a little bit higher than some competitors. The sandwiches are a bit pricier than you might expect. But I can attest that the food and beverages are of the highest quality, and you have to pay a little more for products that are far superior to those from an average cheap cafe, when you're enjoying an overall experience like this one that is far more enjoyable.

My egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich came on a buttery and flaky croissant. Every bite had soft egg, melt cheese, and crispy bacon on that soft and buttery base. It really hit the spot, and I thought it was worth the $12 I paid for it.

My mocha ($6) came very hot and looked beautiful because of the latte art. It was thick and tasted like dark chocolate infused with smooth milk. It was yummy and sweet but not too sweet, all the while being creamy and warm.

I spent a long time savoring my mocha and breakfast sandwich, amazed by how much I loved the environment. It was relaxed, comfortable, and a nice place to just sit and think.  I think I’ll come back next time I’m craving a solid bit of coffee and food in a good place to focus and work.
