Manna
Manna
Manna is a Korean restaurant in San Francisco that proudly gives San Franciscans a taste of the flavors and textures of Korean cuisine. This small and charming restaurant efficiently made use of every bit of its small restaurant, packing in the tables and lining the walls with soda boxes. It has one small dining area, some outdoor seating, and a long waitlist, if necessary. It is so good that it is popular among those familiar with Korean cuisine and those who are not yet.
We discovered Manna by accident when we were walking through the area, casually perusing eating options. We were intrigued by the long menu full of reasonably priced and interesting Korean dishes, and ultimately, each of us quickly found something we would like to try.
Soon after joining the waitlist, we were politely pointed to one of the tables. We placed our orders with a conscientious and kind server, who took our orders back to the kitchen and returned with a fascinating spread of kimchi and other Korean pickles, which we immediately began to devour.
Our table ordered: the spicy bulgogi pork, which was marinated pork on a bed of onions with a bright and not excessively spicy flavor; the hot bimibop, which was a hearty bowl of beef, rice, egg, and vegetables; the soft tofu seafood soup, which had a ayer of soft tofu and a generous portion of clams, shrimp and octopus, and vegetables in an umami broth; the bul kogi feel which was a layer of tender soy sauce marinated beef on a bed of onions; and the kimchi pancake, which was made of cabbage, kimchi, adn a blend of flours and was crispy along the edges and mildly salty througout. Everything was satisfyingly savory and filling, and the portions were substantial without being too large.
Our food came out soon after we ordered it; this business churns customers in and out of its small eating area, causing people to leave quickly but completely satisfied. From the free kimchi to the very nice Korean ceramics that helped our food stay steaming hot, every small detail was thought of to help create the ultimate eating experience.
It’s certainly the kind of place I would like to come again!
