Piccino Coffee Bar
Piccino
Piccino coffee bar sits in the Dogpatch next to a proper restaurant by the same name, which I have not yet tried. It’s merely a small room with a refrigerator holding sandwiches and cookie dough and a counter in front of their espresso equipment and kitchen, displaying some yummy pastries. It has no seating, but it is always well-staffed, so the service is rather prompt.
The menu has a variety of coffee, espresso, and tea beverages; they proudly serve caffeinated and non-caffeinated options, and everything is carefully prepared for quality assurance. For example, they have lattes, including vanilla lattes, mochas, chai tea, and hot chocolate, among others, and everything tastes professionally made. Prices are what you’d expect from a San Francisco coffee shop, and the bitterness of the coffee or tea flavor tends to be mild, and the temperature and the consistency of the milk always hit the spot. All these things make it a great spot for a little pick-me-up.
In my opinion, though, the main attraction at this small bar is the selection of pastries that you can see on display behind the counter when you walk in. It’s hard to argue with the fresh-baked goodness produced in their ovens. In many ways, as much as I do like the coffee here, I think of it as a miniature bakery that also serves coffee and tea. Although there are only a few options to choose from, the options offered are pretty much solid gold.
They circulate a variety of goodies on and off the menu, but, in my opinion, the cookies and banana nut muffins are off the charts. The pastries here taste not only sweet but also deeply complex; the textures are masterfully manipulated to create treats that are not only fascinatingly delicious but also delightful to bite into and chew. The taste of these baked goods will have you making excuses to come back to the area. Piccino is the perfect place to grab a quick treat!
